Birth Equity
IGA Students Awarded National Youth Leadership Council Grant for Birth Equity Initiative
We are proud to announce that students from the International Girls Academy have been awarded a $500 mini grant from the National Youth Leadership Council to support their groundbreaking Birth Equity Project. This recognition highlights our students' commitment to addressing critical health disparities and ensuring that all women have access to the education, support, and resources they need throughout their pregnancy and birthing journey.
Empowering Communities Through Education
Birth equity is a matter of justice. Too many women, particularly women of color and those in underserved communities, face significant barriers to quality maternal healthcare and lack access to vital information about pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum care. Our students recognized this gap and decided to take action.
Through the Birth Equity Project, IGA students are working to ensure that all women—regardless of their background, zip code, or economic status—are educated, supported, and equipped with the resources they need to make informed decisions about their birthing experiences.
A Student-Led Solution
What makes this project truly special is that it's entirely student-driven. Our young leaders identified a pressing issue in their communities, researched solutions, and developed a comprehensive plan to make a difference. The National Youth Leadership Council recognized the value and potential of their work, awarding them this competitive mini grant to bring their vision to life.
With the $500 grant, our students will:
Create educational materials that provide clear, accessible information about pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum care
Host community workshops to share resources and connect women with support services
Build partnerships with local healthcare providers and maternal health advocates
Develop multilingual resources to ensure language is never a barrier to critical health information
Establish a resource hub where women can access information and support at any stage of their journey
More Than a Project—A Movement
The Birth Equity Project represents everything the International Girls Academy stands for: empowering young women to be changemakers, addressing real-world issues, and creating lasting impact in their communities. Our students aren't just learning about leadership—they're living it.
This grant is a testament to the power of youth-led initiatives and the incredible potential of our students. We're grateful to the National Youth Leadership Council for investing in our young leaders and believing in their vision for a more equitable future.
