International Girls Academy Presents: NIA Tech Summer Leadership Academy
This summer: The International Girls Academy (IGA) presents the NIA Tech Summer Leadership Academy, in partnership with Connected Nation’s Teens Teach Tech program, powered by AT&T. As the summer series of our NIA Empowerment Academy, the NIA Tech Summer Leadership Academy is a new opportunity taught by our students to help attendees build digital readiness skills that open doors in school, work, entrepreneurship, and daily life.
“Nia,” the fifth principle of the Nguzo Saba, translates to “purpose” and encourages us to consider how our actions will affect future generations and develop a collective vision for community-building and development. The principle of Nia frames our vision of promoting digital literacy within the larger picture of our increasingly digital society, preparing our communities to navigate and harness digital tools to uplift the community on pace with the world around us.
What is the NIA Tech Summer Leadership Academy?
The NIA Tech Summer Leadership Academy is a free summer learning series focused on digital essentials: the core technology skills needed to navigate today’s world safely, confidently, and creatively. Attendees can expect a supportive, hands-on environment where they can build practical skills, ask questions, and learn alongside peers. Sessions will be taught by IGA’s passionate and digitally literate teen students.
The academy will take place in virtual sessions throughout June, July, and August. Anyone 18 years and up is eligible to attend. This is a great opportunity for anyone hoping to interact more fluidly with everyday technology while supporting girls in the community—whether you’re an educator looking to incorporate more digital tools into your lesson plans, a grandparent looking to communicate more easily online with younger family members, or anyone else!
Each session will cover key digital essentials and help attendees grow step-by-step, so they can keep practicing and building momentum throughout the summer. While each session will have its own focus, participants can look forward to skill-building around topics like:
Digital basics and navigating online tools
Safe and responsible online habits
Communication and collaboration using technology
Building confidence with everyday tech tasks
