At The International Girls Academy, we believe girls don’t need a seat at the table — they can create their own. For the past 12 weeks, we partnered with Project Scientist to turn that belief into hands‑on science, joyful discovery, and community care.

Why this partnership matters (IGA perspective)

Rooted in the Nguzo Saba, we practice Ujima — collective work and responsibility — in everything we do. With Project Scientist, our students explored science in welcoming spaces where curiosity leads and confidence follows. Together we designed sessions that were joyful, engaging, and accessible, so every learner felt a sense of belonging in STEM.

What we built together in 12 weeks

Weekly labs that moved from wonder to “we did it!”: chemistry color‑reactions, mini robotics, and data stories
Real‑world questions turned into simple experiments students could try, test, and iterate
Mentor circles where feedback felt warm, clear, and actionable
Mini showcases where students presented findings and next steps to peers and families

What Project Scientist brings

Project Scientist is a national education nonprofit that creates joyful, hands‑on STEAM programs and out‑of‑school experiences designed to build confidence and spark belonging for girls and all youth they serve. Their Innovation Lab, Explorers Club, and Scholars Circle provide flexible formats, curriculum, educator training, and ready‑to‑use kits that make high‑quality STEM learning possible for schools and community partners.

Ujima in action

Students, mentors, families, educators, and partners worked shoulder to shoulder. The result: more students trying new tools, more teams iterating with courage, and more voices on the mic during share‑outs. This is what collective work and responsibility looks like in a STEM classroom.
